A common language we all share is music. I cannot think of a place or culture that does not have music as part of community fabric. When we sing or improvise in groups our oxytocin levels increase, which in turn provide us with a sense of bond and togetherness. Beyond the physical, it is a great way to meet people and get bit closer to the culture of a place. If you want to really experience a place, eat the food, walk the streets, breathe the air and listen to some of the local music.
So armed with a mini recording rig that consists of a binaural mic headset from Sonic Presence, two miniature DPA 4061 lav mics, a Shure Motiv 88 iPhone mic, a DPA d:vice audio interface that is about the size of a silver dollar and my iPhone, I set out to record the sounds (and sights of course!) of our stops along the way.
The beauty of the binaural mic setup is that it captures the sound as the person wearing the mics on their ears experiences it. This form of “immersive audio” is rapidly being adopted for gaming and first person perspective applications. This rig is ultra-light, high resolution and reasonably discreet. I love it!
Now let’s go!
